Week 1 Integrative Learning: Identifying Career Goals & Opportunities

The purpose of this activity is to get down what I want to begin working towards with my career goals after graduation. Also what and how I go about making sure I am doing everything I can be successful in making those goals happen with the countless opportunities that are out for myself.

  1. Identify your professional career goals for short term (6 - 12 months)

In identifing my professional career goals for the short term in 6 - 12 months, I would like to get a head start in a media company even as a social media associate. I will have to give the hiring managers a call within 24 - 36 hours of submitting the application along with my updated resume and in hopes that someone will give me the chance to get some experience.

2. Identify your professional career goals for long term ( 3 - 5 years).

In identifing my professional career goals for long term of 3 - 5 years, I would like to after with hopes of having someone give me that chance to as a social media associate and work alongside some of the best in the media industry, eventually I would like to open up my own media studio agency and continue learning and growing my fails, errors and successes.

3. Identify the major industry skills you want to be using.

The major industry skills I want to be using is profient problem solving, data analytics, social media literacy, good business sense, having resilency of trail and error, always having the willingness to learn and proving my worth from the get-go, all while constantly creating creative content for the web.

4. Provide links to 3 job descriptions you want to pursue upon graduation

1- Digital Graphic Designer (NY or LA) Description reads,"We are seeking a detailed and passionate Digital Designer to join the Creative Services team for renowned brands Billboard, The Hollywood Reporter, SPIN, Stereogum, VIBE, and Death+Taxes. This position is open to New York OR Los Angeles. The right candidate must love designing for music, pop culture and film, with forward-thinking user experiences that are intuitive and clean. This designer will be mainly working with the marketing team, focusing on pre and post sale graphics, many of which involve some of the biggest brand names in the market. The position will also require a jack/jill-of-all-trades to assist with product and brand graphics. Your work will be viewed by our highly captive audience that reaches millions of monthly viewers. The position is fast-paced, often with quick turnarounds and revisions, so working efficiently is essential. Each of our properties has a unique voice, so you must be able to toggle between aesthetics to represent each brand accurately."

2- Office Assistant Description/responsiblites description reads, "Provide support to Facilities Director and coordinate special projects as directed; Communicate with vendors as directed; Answer all incoming calls to the Mansueto Ventures main phone number; Provide customer service by either answering the caller's question or transferring the call to the correct extensions; Work with the building's security to verify access and greet/announce visitors to our floor; Manage key aspects of the new hire process; Update employee phone directory; Create new user accounts for UPS; Maintain new employee spreadsheet for record keeping; Work with mailroom supervisor to maintain office and kitchen supply inventory; Reconcile weekly invoices and submit to A/P; Provide general support and assistance for events, which can include accepting deliveries, organizing furniture and managing logistics; Maintain lunch coverage pool and train interns in reception coverage responsibilities."

3- Social Media Coordinator description reads, "Northstar is seeking a Social Media Coordinator who will play a key role in managing our client’s social media campaigns. Our goal is to increase traffic and interaction with our audience and our client’s social media campaigns. The ideal candidate will be well versed in all things social. They will be able to connect with audience; be familiar with both major and emerging social platforms; be a highly creative thinker; and be able to quickly change and evolve with the digital landscape. Possess a passion for content development, and be a creative thinker as well as technically savvy - Experience with Facebook Business Manager, Instagram, Hootsuite, Google, LinkedIn, and Pinterest."
